Jesus said you can’t pour new wine into old wineskins.
If you do, the leather skins would burst, because they had already been stretched and formed into a certain shape. The message Jesus came to bring was new in its time, and it’s still new now. We believe that the good news Jesus brought was kind of subversive and disruptive to the way things are always done. If Jesus wants to do new things in our community, we will need to find some new wineskins to hold the new wine.
No one pours new wine into old wineskins. The wine would swell and burst the old skins. Then the wine would be lost, and the skins would be ruined. New wine must be put into new wineskins. Both the skins and the wine will then be safe.
